2019

We were appointed planning consultants by UCD to lead applications for Phase 1 of the Future Campus Masterplan. The project featured a collaboration between New York-based Steven Holl Architects and Dublin-based RKD Architects to deliver two new iconic buildings at the Belfield entrance to UCD Campus: The Centre for Creativity and the Centre for Future Learning.

The project also included a landscaping and enabling works application to provide a new Arrival Plaza and public realm improvements at the main Belfield entrance to the Campus.

The project will ensure that UCD has the right mix of accommodations to be a catalyst for creativity across the university campus. The Centre for Creativity will house the Schools of Engineering, Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy. Steven Holl’s design inspiration for the Centre for Creativity was inspired by the natural geometries of Giants Causeway and the work of James Joyce.

The Centre for Future Learning is a dedicated teaching and learning facility that will be independent of any Faculty and will be a resource available for the entire University community.

There was positive engagement with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and the grants of permission for both buildings were upheld by An Bord Pleanála following a third-party appeal.
